The Neve 1084 retains the core design of the iconic Neve 1073 but offers a distinctly different range of frequency options. Additionally, it includes a “Q” switch, enabling users to select between two Q types – either narrow or wide – within the parametric band.
The Neve 1084 builds on the iconic design of the world-renowned Neve 1073, but it offers a notably different range of frequency options. Additionally, the 1084 includes a “Q” switch that allows users to select between two Q types—narrow or wide—in relation to the parametric band.
The Neve 1084’s enhanced EQ section builds upon the sonic foundation of the 1073, offering selectable high shelf frequency points for improved control over the airband, a Hi-Q mid-band setting for greater precision in the presence range, and an added low pass filter to complement the 1073’s HPF.
Like the Neve 1073, the Neve 1084 utilises Marinair® specification transformers for its microphone and line inputs and on the balanced line output stage, contributing to the classic Neve® module sound.
The Neve 1084 features discrete class-A circuitry throughout, which is free from crossover distortion and imparts a subtle, warm, and musical analogue character to any line or microphone source.
The classic 5dB stepped Elma switch provides precise gain levels across the entire gain range. This unique design eliminates the need for a separate mic/line switch, as the pot itself selects the preamp and input. Three distinct gain stages, provided by two independent transistor-based preamplifiers, ensure gain for any DI, line input, or microphone signal.
The Neve 1073 preamp, as featured in the 1084, offers up to 80dB of microphone gain. By combining multiple gain stages, the 1084 preamp enhances the musical drive and harmonic saturation that the 1073 is renowned for.
The 180-degree phase flip feature is invaluable in multi-microphone setups with multiple preamps, making it ideal for top and bottom snare micing.
The Neve 1084 module includes two impedance settings, accessible via a rear mounted Hi/Lo switch. With settings of 1.2kΩ and 300Ω, the impedance can be optimised for use with a wide range of modern and vintage microphones.
The Neve 1084 is available in two orientations: vertical and horizontal. Vertical orientation modules can be configured for installation in a console or an 8-module rack, while horizontal modules are designed for use in a 3U stereo pair rack.
