The vintage-style, fully stereo Drawmer 1974 Four Band Parametric Equaliser delivers exceptional analogue musicality and sonic clarity, inspired by 1970s-era gear. It excels in subtle shaping for mastering purposes that require a delicate touch and easy recall, while also being highly effective for tonal sculpting. The 1974 adds analogue warmth and character that is nearly impossible to emulate in the digital domain.
The Drawmer 1974 Four Band Parametric Equaliser offers immersive stereo operation with one set of controls for both channels. Its versatile design includes dual-channel precision stepped potentiometers, providing exceptional accuracy for fast and simple recall. The fully variable bandwidth allows precise control of the parametric mid bands, enabling adjustments that are surgically precise or broad and natural-sounding.
Fully adjustable low and high cut filters are included, ideal for tuning out undesirable signals at the frequency extremes. The Drawmer 1974 also features switchable slopes on the low and high bands, allowing you to alter the focus at the top and bottom frequencies, plus a low peak setting that magnifies the bottom end. This equaliser is perfect for tonal shaping, staying true to the sound of the ’70s and ideal for any musician.
The Drawmer 1974 features genuine stereo linked operation, making adjustments quick and simple with just one set of controls for both channels. This eliminates the need to match settings for the left and right channels manually. Precision potentiometers are matched for left/right accuracy within fine tolerances, ensuring both channels operate identically. The indented operation provides exceptional accuracy for fast and simple recall.
As a true parametric equaliser, the 1974 offers four bands with fully variable frequency controls and a cut and boost of +/-12dB. Unlike EQs with no bandwidth adjustment or a simple switch, the two mid bands have completely variable filter bandwidth controls, allowing users to focus on very narrow sections of the audio spectrum or apply a broad natural-sounding filter. This versatility makes the 1974 capable of everything from subtly fine-tuning mixes to tone-sculpting problematic recordings.
The Drawmer 1974 also includes fully variable low and high cut filters, ideal for removing undesirable signals. The low-cut filter ranges from 10Hz to 225Hz, and the high cut filter ranges from 4kHz to 32kHz. Being fully variable, these controls allow you to sweep to find the perfect setting and remove sounds with pinpoint accuracy. This is especially useful when bracketing individual tracks to remove rumble and hiss, as these signals add up when tracks are layered. For instance, you can cut everything below 100Hz except for instruments within that spectrum, such as the kick, bass, or synths, to provide extra headroom and tighten up the bass, making it sound less muddy. The same applies to high frequencies.
Very few analogue parametric equalisers have adjustable slopes on the low and high band filters, but the Drawmer 1974 offers this feature, allowing you to take control of your audio. The filter slopes have been chosen for their musicality, allowing you to adjust the focus of the audio at the bottom and top ends without being as harsh as a brick wall filter. At the bottom end, slopes of 6, 9, and 12dB per octave, plus a Peak setting, are available. At the high end, slopes of 6 and 12dB per octave are offered.
The Peak setting adds a narrow bell shape to the 12dB per octave low band filter at the knee frequency just before it rolls off. This is especially useful on kick drums, as it magnifies and adds extra weight to the hit while still filtering out subsonic junk and without muddying the lower midrange. It gives your kick an added sense of power and precision.
