Thirty years ago, Marrickville stood as the working-class heart of Sydney. Fast-forward to today, and it’s a suburb transformed, rich in contrast, culture, and character.
Where overhead gantry cranes once loomed, you’ll now find the scent of coffee beans and the sharp zing of galaxy hops in the air. The industrial bones of the area remain, but its spirit has shifted, Marrickville Road is now a haven for craft brewers, specialty cafes, and creative expression.
Jason, founder of Mixtape Brewing, saw potential in the industrial charm of his venue, polished concrete floors, exposed brick walls, soaring ceilings, and a glass sunroof. It was a visual dream, but the acoustics? Not quite. A packed Sunday session with over 150 patrons made it clear: something needed to be done.
Through a trusted local recommendation, Jason connected with Ordio Productions, who came in to assess the space, its use, and the budget. Following an acoustic analysis, a tailored design was proposed, and soon, the materials were on their way.
Honoring the building’s heritage and rustic vibe, 24mm Cube Acoustic Panels were chosen as the primary treatment, paired with 75mm Quietspace Panels strategically placed on the rear wall. The result? A warm, natural-sounding venue with controlled acoustics and minimal reflection.
By incorporating a 20mm air gap, the panels’ NRC performance was significantly enhanced, and all installations were designed with non-permanent fixing methods in mind, preserving the integrity of the original structure.
Not long after the installation’s success, Jason was inspired to push the venue further, introducing mid-week Open Mic Nights and weekend live music sessions. More on that in our next blog.
