Job: Custom 19″ Rack Mount Conference Input Plates with DB 25 Backbone
At Ordio Productions, we deliver bespoke audio-visual solutions tailored to the unique needs of our clients. In 2023, we had the privilege of working with AV1, a leader in the audio-visual industry, to create a custom solution that would enhance their conference setups. The project was to design and manufacture custom 19″ rack mount conference input plates, complete with a DB 25 backbone.
AV1 required a solution that was both robust and flexible, allowing for seamless integration into their existing conference systems. The primary challenge was to design input plates that could accommodate multiple audio connections while maintaining a clean and professional appearance. These input plates needed to be reliable, easy to install, and capable of withstanding the rigours of frequent use in a busy conference environment.
To meet AV1’s requirements, we opted for high-quality components that would ensure both performance and durability. Here’s a breakdown of the products we used:
Penn Elcom UK Made Blank D-Series 19″ Rack: Known for their superior build quality, Penn Elcom racks are the go-to choice for professionals who need reliable and sturdy mounting solutions. The blank D-Series rack provided the perfect foundation for the custom input plates, allowing for a clean and organised setup.
Neutrik D-Series XLR’s: Neutrik is a name synonymous with excellence in the world of audio connectors. Their D-Series XLR connectors offer a secure and stable connection, ensuring that AV1’s audio signals are transmitted without interference or loss of quality.
Mogami Multicore Cable: When it comes to cabling, Mogami is a brand that needs no introduction. Their multicore cables are renowned for their clarity, flexibility, and durability. Using Mogami cables ensured that the audio signals within the system would be preserved with the highest fidelity.
Whirlwind Gold Plated DB25 Male Connectors: To complete the backbone of the system, we used Whirlwind’s gold plated DB25 male connectors. These connectors offer superior conductivity and resistance to corrosion, ensuring that the system will remain reliable over time.
With the components selected, our team got to work designing the custom input plates. The Mogami multicore cable was meticulously wired to the Neutrik XLR connectors, and the connections were then routed to the Whirlwind DB25 connectors. Each connection was tested to ensure it met our high standards of quality and performance.
Before delivery, we conducted a series of tests to ensure the input plates would perform flawlessly in a live environment. This included signal integrity tests, durability checks, and a final visual inspection.
