Ordio Productions were appointed as the preferred acoustic consultants, suppliers and installers for the multifunction spaces at Wahroonga Anglican Church. The project involved addressing a number of significant acoustic challenges across a complex environment that included a live band room with low ceilings, operable walls, and multiple reflective surfaces. These rooms opened into a larger space with a high, pitched ceiling, creating a variety of problematic sound interactions.
From the outset, one of the most pressing concerns was the transfer of noise from the music room into adjoining areas – particularly the canteen and meeting rooms at the front of the building. This was causing disruptions and made it difficult for the spaces to be used simultaneously without interference. Reverberation, echo, and general lack of speech clarity were affecting the functionality of each room.
To tackle the problem with precision, Ordio Productions specified and installed 25mm Autex Quietspace® Panels in Nude White across the ceilings in the three primary areas. These high-performance acoustic panels were chosen for their excellent absorptive properties and their minimalist aesthetic, which suited the church’s architecture. The solution achieved an estimated 45% reduction in echo, reverb and common acoustic issues, significantly improving the usability of the spaces.
The success of this stage of the project has opened discussions around further upgrades, including potential treatment of the sunroom and other adjoining spaces. Ordio Productions will continue working with the client to assess and address these areas in future stages, ensuring Wahroonga Anglican Church continues to function as a flexible, welcoming environment for all its community activities.
