Immersive Mixing with Bob Clearmountain

Last night, Ordio Productions in Sydney played host to a truly special evening – the Immersive Mixing with Bob Clearmountain. Presented by Apogee Electronics and Link Audio, this exclusive event offered three intimate sessions, giving attendees an up-close experience with one of the most influential mix engineers in modern music.

Bob Clearmountain, known for his legendary work with Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Bryan Adams, and countless others, walked guests through his approach to immersive audio, breaking down mixes in a way that showcased the depth and dimension this format offers. Throughout the sessions, Clearmountain shared his mixing philosophy, technical expertise, and decades of experience in shaping some of the world’s most iconic records.

As the evening progressed, attendees were treated to a spectacular listening experience, with immersive mixes played back through the Apogee Symphony Studio Series audio interface, paired with ATC and Genelec monitors. Ordio Productions’ spacious studio and showroom proved to be the perfect setting for experiencing immersive sound at its absolute best.

The night wasn’t just about the music – it was also an opportunity for the industry to come together. Several renowned producers and musicians were in attendance, adding to the prestige of the event.

Kevin Shirley, the internationally respected producer and mix engineer, was among the guests. Known for his work with Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Joe Bonamassa, and The Black Crowes, Shirley has long been a key figure in the world of rock and blues production. His presence at the masterclass only added to the excitement, as he shared insights and stories from his extensive career.

Also in attendance was Daniel Denholm, an Emmy and ARIA Award-winning producer, composer, and arranger. Denholm’s career spans decades, having worked with artists like Midnight Oil, Silverchair, Powderfinger, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

The night also attracted a host of musicians, including members of The Baby Animals (Ricki Rae, drummer and Studio Owner/Engineer) and Glenn Rhodes, an accomplished keyboard player and producer who has worked with Margaret Urlich, Ian Moss, Wendy Matthews, Dionne Warwick, and Thelma Houston, to name but a few. Their presence further underscored the calibre of the event, as discussions around immersive mixing extended beyond just production techniques into the artistic possibilities of the format.

By the time the evening wrapped up, it was clear the event had been a huge success. Attendees not only experienced Clearmountain’s immersive mixes in a state-of-the-art listening environment but also enjoyed the chance to chat with industry greats over drinks, making for an unforgettable night of music and technology.
